What Happened So Far: Culling Game Part 1 Recap
Season 3 was an absolute roller coaster that took us through the first brutal stages of Kenjaku’s “unprecedented act of jujutsu terrorism”. Following the devastating Shibuya Incident, the Culling Game was revealed as a lethal battle royale across ten barrier colonies in Japan, designed to prepare humanity for a “Great Merger” with Master Tengen.
Our heroes entered the fray with high stakes: saving Tsumiki Fushiguro and freeing Satoru Gojo from the Prison Realm. We witnessed:
- Tokyo No. 1 Colony: Yuji and Megumi clashed with Hiromi Higuruma and Reggie Star, successfully adding a rule to transfer points.
- Tokyo No. 2 Colony: We got our first taste of the God of Lightning, Hajime Kashimo, who dominated the field before encountering Panda and Hakari.
- Sakurajima Colony: A fully realized Maki Zenin reached her true potential, effortlessly exorcising a reincarnated, cursed version of Naoya Zenin.
The Return of the Queen’s Vessel: Yuta Okkotsu’s Dominance
The finale, titled “Sendai Colony,” was the absolute highlight of the season. Yuta Okkotsu finally showed why he is the only one who can truly stand next to Gojo Satoru. Entering the Sendai deadlock, Yuta eliminated Dhruv Lakdawalla and the cockroach spirit Kurourushi before engaging in a massive three-way domain clash against Ryu Ishigori and Takako Uro. Watching Yuta use Rika and his full power to conquer the strongest players in the colony was nothing short of cinematic gold.
Fan Hype & The "Director Rumors"
The fandom is currently buzzing with mixed emotions. While the quality of Part 1 set a “ridiculously high bar,” rumors are circulating that director Shouta Goshozono might be stepping away for the next installment. This has led to some anxiety among fans who loved the experimental and unique feeling of Season 3. However, many others are just happy the animators might finally be getting a much-needed break after MAPPA’s intense production schedule.

When is the Season 4 Release Date?
Hold your cursed energy, because we might have to be patient. While Season 4 is confirmed, reports suggest a release window of January 2027 at the earliest. This is largely because Japanese TV slots are reportedly filled until then, and MAPPA has a packed lineup including Chainsaw Man and Dorohedoro Season 2.
Mark your calendars for March 28, 2026! Jujutsu Kaisen is scheduled for the Red Stage at AnimeJapan 2026, where major announcements and potentially a new teaser are expected.
What Awaits Us in Season 4?
Get ready, because Season 4 is going to be even more adrenaline-pumping. Based on where the manga is headed, we are waiting for:
- Kinji Hakari’s “Idle Death Gamble” at full power against the legendary Kashimo.
- The mystery of The Angel and her role in freeing Gojo.
- Choso and Yuki Tsukumo standing their ground to protect Tengen against Kenjaku.
- The eventual climax of the Culling Game that will set the tone for the rest of the series.
With over 271 chapters in the manga, there is still plenty of story left to tell, and we are only just reaching the most exciting parts. Stay tuned, keep your domains expanded, and let’s pray for that January 2027 return!
