Gege teams up with Yuji Iwasaki (Cipher Academy) for Mimojuro, while Jujutsu Kaisen Anime Season 3: Culling Game awaits its August 31 reveal.
The curtains may have closed on Jujutsu Kaisen, but Gege Akutami isn’t taking a long break. Instead, the mastermind behind one of shonen’s biggest modern hits is back with a brand-new project. A fresh manga titled “Mimojuro” will debut in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41 on September 8, 2025.
Unlike JJK, this time Akutami will work only as the writer, teaming up with artist Yuji Iwasaki, best known for Cipher Academy.
What We Know So Far: The New Manga

Title: Mimojuro (stylized as Mojurō on X)
Debut: September 8, 2025 (Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41)
Writer: Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Artist: Yuji Iwasaki (Cipher Academy)
Format: Short-term serialization (not a long-running series, at least for now)
The first teaser visual hasn’t been shared yet, but given Akutami’s storytelling flair and Iwasaki’s sharp, detail-heavy art style, expectations are already through the roof.
Why This Is Huge
Gege Akutami returning this soon after wrapping Jujutsu Kaisen feels almost unreal. The manga’s ending earlier this year left the fandom divided — some readers loved the bittersweet conclusion, while others felt it was rushed and unresolved.
Akutami himself admitted that health struggles forced him to accelerate the ending. In fact, he revealed that Eiichiro Oda (One Piece’s creator) personally guided him to seek hospital care at a critical time. Without Oda’s support, things could have turned out much worse.
So seeing Gege healthy enough to jump into a new project? That’s not just exciting news — it’s reassuring for fans who’ve been worried about him.
Anime Corner: Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Incoming
As if that wasn’t enough, Jujutsu Kaisen anime fans also have something massive on the horizon. Season 3, covering the Culling Game arc, will be officially announced on August 31.
Key visuals for the arc are already stirring hype, teasing chaotic battles and long-awaited clashes. With MAPPA handling production once again, the adaptation of this brutal arc is set to be one of the anime highlights of 2026

My Perspective
This double wave of news feels like the perfect passing of the torch moment. On one hand, we’re gearing up for the anime continuation of JJK, diving into one of the manga’s craziest arcs. On the other, we’re about to see what Gege can do in a fresh setting with Mimojuro.
And honestly? I love that Gege is just writing this time. His world-building and narrative twists are legendary, but pairing that with Iwasaki’s precise, intricate art could create a new kind of storytelling magic.
Whether Mimojuro turns out to be a quirky experiment or a hidden gem, the otaku in me is already bracing for something bold.
