High School! Kimengumi Anime Reboot Announced for 2026

It’s official! The legendary gag comedy “High School! Kimengumi” is making a grand comeback as a brand-new TV anime in 2026, marking the return of one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s most chaotic and beloved series. The announcement dropped alongside a striking teaser visual showing the five eccentric members of the Strange Mask Group, plus an image MV for their new cover song “Ushiro Yubisaregumi” remixed by Night Tempo.

Originally created by Motoei Shinzawa, the Kimengumi series began back in 1980 as “3-Year Strange Mask Group” in Weekly Shonen Jump. As the characters graduated, it evolved into “High School! Kimengumi” — a slapstick school comedy that became a pop-culture sensation through its absurd humor and unforgettable cast. The original 1985–1987 anime ran for 86 episodes and even inspired a feature film, solidifying its cult status among classic anime fans.

Now, after almost four decades, the gang is back — this time for the Reiwa era.
