“Like sand they slip through our fingers” – I’m talking about anime that were truly remarkable yet flew under the radar in 2024, and we’re here to give them the recognition they deserve.
Here’s a list of the ones you should check out and remember – 5 Anime that flew under your radar this year.
5. GO! GO! LOSER RANGER
Now this one is such a curveball. Do not – I repeat – do not judge it based on its name or the initial funny vibes you might get from it.
The story begins with monsters launching an assault on humanity in a bid for world domination, but five heroes—resembling Power Rangers—step in, defeating them all and saving the day.
At first glance, it may seem like a typical “heroes versus monsters” plot, but trust me, it’s anything but ordinary. With the final Boss monsters now defeated, the heroes propose a unique deal to the remaining, less-threatening monsters: each weekend, the monsters will send a few of their own to be defeated by the heroes, and in exchange, their lives will be spared.
See! It’s the Heroes who are deceiving everyone, and our main character is indeed one of the monsters. Fed up with this growing injustice, he decides he’s had enough and enlists himself as a hero to finally take a stand against it all.
4. BARTENDER: GLASS OF GOD
Let me just say it – “This might not be everyone’s glass of wine” (pun intended).
As the name suggests, this anime will turn you into an alcohol wizard, giving you plenty of knowledge to impress your friends.
But is that all? Not at all! Watching this, you’ll gain plenty of wisdom along the way. Alcohol has a way of bringing out people’s deepest emotions, and after a long day, there’s no better way to unwind than with a beautiful drink. Even more so when you’re at Eden Hall with Ryo Sasakura – a skilled bartender who helps people confront their troubles over a drink.
This anime delivers a calming, satisfying experience. If you enjoy something philosophical and are looking for a unique anime, this might be just the thing for you.
3. TADAEMA OKAERI
A Boys’ Love Omegaverse anime! This may not be for everyone, but it’s outstanding in achieving what it set out to do. A rare treat, it sparked excitement among fans awaiting this manga adaptation.
The story explores two key aspects of life as a gay couple: navigating male parenthood and facing discrimination from both society and their own families. The family moments are genuinely heartwarming, especially their interactions with their children. As expected, they encounter significant social stigma, but the way they handle these challenges is truly beautiful.
If this sounds like your thing, I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, it didn’t get nearly enough marketing attention. For its genre it just might be a gem you needed.
2. YATAGARASU: THE RAVEN DOES NOT CHOOSE ITS MASTER
Yatagarasu only missed the top spot because some of you had already discovered it. Those who have seen it can appreciate the lost art of weaving a genuinely good story that it revived.
In contrast to this year’s popular titles like Solo Leveling, Mashle, and Kaiju No.8—which, while enjoyable, lack that deeper complexity—Yatagarasu’s creators clearly understood what hardcore anime fans have been missing.
Set in the fantasy world of Yamauchi, where humans can shapeshift into three-legged ravens called Yatagarasu, the story follows a long-standing tradition where the Yatagarasu are led by the Kin’u, or Golden Raven.
It centers on two brothers locked in a battle for the throne: one, a true-blood heir, and the other, who may lack pure lineage but claims the right to be the True Kin’u, the Golden Crow. With a blend of strategy, deception, and classic mind games, this anime has it all and promises an unforgettable experience.
1. THE FABLE
This one truly deserves your attention—an underrated manga that deserves better as an anime, and it’s time to give it the recognition it deserves.
The story centers on Akira Sato, a serial killer known as “Fable.” Trained as an assassin, he can eliminate any target within six seconds. Alongside his partner and under the orders of his boss, he’s left a high-profile trail of dead politicians, celebrities, and other people.
But now, after a spree of killings, his boss orders him to go undercover, lay low, and not kill anyone for a whole year.
To blend in, he and his female driver pose as siblings and move in with a Yakuza family.
Akira’s serious, stone-cold face hides a subtly comical side, adding to his unique and badass character.
Will he manage to go a full year without killing—especially while living with a Yakuza family and that too when killing is the only thing he knows? Find out as you dive into this intense story.
